Florida and Beyond

The AP is reporting the Edwards is dropping out of the race. A big endorsement is coming. Who is going to promise him the AG seat?

Paul received the support from none other than Arlo Guthrie...

"I love this guy," said Arlo. "Dr. Paul is the only candidate I know who would have signed the Constitution of the United States had he been there."
The remaining conservatives would've pandered to their constituents promising them federal monies and bailouts for their votes. And the Dems would've clearly returned to Great Britain.
Thompson's dropout was supposed to give a boost to Huckabee in the percentages (especially in the South) yet his numbers, appearances, and airplay has dwindled since Fred went dead. It's being reported that Huckabee's big wigs are working without pay (some). If that $800.00 in stimulus doesn't come soon they're going to have to retreat to greener pastures.
Romney's move to Nevada was big for him and fatally ignored by Giuliani. In like five days Romney won two big states, Michigan and Nevada, which gave him a huge bump in delegates and put his face on TV a lot more than Huck and Rudy.
Had Rudy done the same and focused his efforts in both Florida AND Nevada, we may be looking at a two way race between McCain and Giulianni.
I know Paul's move is to attempt (and I mean attempt) to win bigger states that are somewhat ignored by RomCainabee, a la Romney in Nevada. These include Minnesota, Maine, and Washington.
Huckabee should also do the same in the South and mid-West where he is polling either first or second.
Paul was virtually ignored in the NBC debate with 5 candidates. TONIGHT @ 8pm on CNN it will grow more difficult for pundits and questioners to ignore him.
HOWEVER, Paul desperately needs to put the posters and bumper-stickers down and stand in front of his message rather than behind it. More comments like "As your President, I would..." or "As Commander in Chief, I will..." will boost his appeal.
Is McCain/Giules a viable partnership for November?

Edwards is out, so hopefully he will just disappear. He never had a prayer and he was the only one who thought he did.

Rudy is the biggest flop of the entire presidential election (even more so than the venerable senator from TN). To have a lead, to have captured the country the way he did, and then to squander that through a hard-core approach to appeal to conservatives without any broader appeal left him exposed... and appearing angry. That is not what we want.

So, you think McCain / Rudy? I think there may be too many mavericks in that White House. What about a McCain / Huckster run with Huck as Veep? He is bleeding cash too fast and is running on E. But, he captured those Christian conservatives better than any other candidate and for the Republicans to hold the WH, they need to turn those voters out in droves. Without the Christian conservative vote, Republicans won't have enough to compete.

Agreed. I don't think Edwards even plays as a V.P.

Hilladonk should pick up Richardson and Obama needs a seasoned democrat governor.

If we're considering Huck and Giules as the only VP candidates and if McCain is the nominee...I think the Party needs to consider whether it's more important to play to the christian right or more important to pick up independants.

McCain vs. Obama is going to be the battle over independants and white males.

If McCainliani polls favorably among indys, it will do the following things: (1) it will put NY in play; (2) it will pull indy votes away from Obama a la NH primaries; and (3) the christian right is going to vote in favor of the Republican anyways.

Also, McCainliani can play the conservative judges card to replace Stevens and Ginsburg, as it's quite possible that these two will leave during the next eight years, especially if a Dem is elected.

If Hilldonk is the candidate, McCainliani will put NY in play and they're going to need every indy vote they can get. However, McCainabee would certainly attract disenfranchised black evangelicals who have been so disrepected by the Clintons.

One thing I haven't considered closely is how important it is to name a VP who caters to the evangelicals? Point is ... going against Obama and Clinton may be enough motivation for the evangelicals to come out to vote even if they do not see one person on the ticket appealing to their particular interest. Clinton hatred is so high that I question whether Hillary could even run a successful campaign. What Bill did before all the stuff happended in the final couple of years of his presidency is not an apples to apples comparison.

From that perspective, I like a Giuliani ticket with McCain. That's a lot of toughness and McCain could use Giuliani the same way Bush used Cheney ... to do the dirty work.
